-Night was clear and calm. She decided to take her usual way home from work. As she walked trough the narrow streets of the small city she was now living in, a strange feeling was nesting in her heart, harboring ill thoughts in her head. Suspension was all around her. The air was heavy. You could almost cut the fog that suddenly appeared from nowhere. At first, she thought it was just the strange climate of the area, but, as time passed on, she found it hard to believe it was just that. Tricks played by her senses under the influence of thoughts set in her mind finally got the better of her. She looked up, gazing at the sky. It was a full moon tonight. Twas marvelous, bright as a big golden spot on black silk.
Can it be? Is it happening again?
-Whispered the low, soft voice in her head.
That's not possible... We left it all behind, that's on the other side of the ocean now.
-She replied in her thoughts.
I know, I know. We left all that after the last incident. After all, that's the reason we are here, trying to live as normal humans.
-The voice whispered absently.
But what if... Just what if someone found out?
-Suddenly, the voice was trembling, it almost sounded as if it was scared.
There is absolutely no way that someone could find out. He took care of everything. He's not the guy to leave things unfinished.
-She replied calmly.
But what if? Maybe he told someone! Maybe someone got it out of him.
-The whispers suddenly became too quick for her to understand. The voice kept babbling on. It was upset, it was petrified.
There is no way he would talk, he swore an oath to me. The most sacred one. The only way someone could get that information is to extract it straight out of his brain.
-She replied trying to stay calm. Cold shivers were going trough her spine. Fog was dense.
He can do that, you know he can!
-The voice screamed in panic.
You know he would do that to get it. He doesn't hold anything sacred. He would kill for that information.
-The voice became high; her head was pulsing with pain. The migraine was coming back hard.
No. He would not do that just to find me. I'm not that important. That incident was an isolated case, it's not that big of a deal.
-Now she was panicking, talking out loud, trying to convince herself in that rather than the voice in her head.
All of a sudden, cold air whipped around her, slicing a way in the mist, ripping the fog in front of her, thus creating a narrow corridor. He was standing on the other end of the smoky passage. Dark red eyes glowing with lust; lust for murder, lust for revenge. His hands where red. Blood was dripping from his fingertips. Shadows cloaked him as he moved graciously towards her. It looked as if he was gliding on the soft mist that was surrounding his ankles. Small circles in the fog around his steps were only proof that he was actually walking. His teeth were white as snow, brightly reflecting the moonlight. She just stood there motionless, paralyzed by fear as he approached calmly, taking his time, enjoying the growing tension between them. Suddenly, a candle lit up on a nearby window and the light fell upon his face. Glancing at him, she noticed a big scar going from his forehead, over his nose, all the way to the other side of his beard. She was responsible for that scar. It was from their last encounter; she barely made it alive. That moment of distraction, while he was searching the source of light; that little window of opportunity was all that she needed. She jumped fast as lighting, swinging her claws towards his throat. She had just one chance... If she misses, she will certainly end up dead. She landed a hit with all her power, slicing trough his neck. As she landed behind him, she quickly turned to see the results.
Did she get him? Was he dead?
-The questions rushed trough her brain in an instant. He was just standing there... When he turned, the grin on his face was terrifying, and the scar wasn't helping one bit.
That tickled.
-Said the figure in a deep, dry tone. It felt like somebody was tightening a rope around her neck, as she struggled to regain breath.
How is that possible? I was fast. I sliced you with all my power. How are you still standing?
-She was terrified. Her voice started to crack. Panic was almost touchable.
Now it's my turn, wouldn't you agree?
-His voice was calm.
NO! NO PLEASE, DON'T! SPARE ME!
-She was screaming, begging him, crawling backwards on all four, pleading for her life.
Things don't go that way, and you know that. You were familiar with the possible consequences when you did it. Law is strict on that one. You broke the most sacred rule by far when you created him. It's not up to you to decide who lives and who dies. Never was...
-He was perfectly calm, even though his voice had a dark note to it. In some twisted way, she knew that he was right.
You took him away from me, you undid what I made that night. You shattered all of my dreams, then you robed me of any ability to feel, to love. Wasn't that punishment enough, I ask you?
-She regained some of her calm. It was her last chance and she knew it; she was holding on to a straw, hopping he still had some feelings in his cold, long-empty chest.
Enough?! Enough?!
-He was laughing, madly excited.
You think you were punished? You sound like that pathetic friend of yours that tried to cover your whereabouts. I just did what I was ordered back then. It was right, and you know it. No... That was no punishment. You can consider that foreplay for what you are about to experience.
-The figure crunched, getting ready to leap. His eyes were sparkling red. His fangs were out. His blood-stained claws were ripping the cold air around him. Suddenly, he jumped.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
-She screamed at the top of her lungs.
It all happened in a blink of an eye. He passed right trough her, slicing her in half...
She woke up laying on the street, covered in cold sweat, surrounded by people she didn't recognize.
What happened? You screamed.
-Said the young man holding hear head.
She looked at her stomach, it was whole, then back to the young man's face. She was confused.
How is this possible? I should be dead... He killed me, I saw it with my own eyes.
-She was out of her mind. What cruel game was taking place around her? Is she dead or alive? What is happening?
Lady, pull yourself together. You were running backwards, screaming, and then you fainted. Are you alright? Do you need anything?
-Replied the young man.
Suddenly it was all clear. The bright moon, the fog, the suspension... It was all an illusion. He was playing with her, teasing her. It was all part of his wicked game.
I'm well. It was only a nightmare, I will be alright.
-She replied absently, while processing events that took place in her mind hysterically.
I think I can find my way home. Thanks for helping me get my senses back.
-She rushed away, she wanted to be alone.
She needed all the time and skill she can muster to confront him. Maybe not tonight, maybe not tomorrow, but he is coming. He stated that pretty well. Her secret was revealed; he was coming for her, it was just the mater of time. This illusion was either a part of his game, or maybe someone is trying to warn her. In any case,he is coming. No doubt in that. One thing was certain. She was back on the road, looking over her shoulder every minute, jumping on every sound, expecting her executioner around every corner. She was a fool for letting herself believe that she was out of danger, that she fooled everybody by crossing the ocean.
You knew all along that it was just a mater of time when they'll figure it out. Now, let's gather all of our strength, and hope it will be enough to survive.
-Said the voice in her head, as she stepped on the road that was leaving the town she thought was her hope. Her last chance for a clean start, to live a normal life...
